ESMF organizes models into collections of components with standardized interfaces, arranged in hierarchical trees. Modelers can utilize ESMF toolkits for common tasks, and can draw from a pool of modeling components already in the community. The result is increased code-sharing and collaboration across organizations, faster knowledge transfer and technical adaptation, and cost savings through code reuse.
